The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, ODIRS has sealed six business outlets across the state for non-payment of land use charge.
The outlets were sealed, following a court order, obtained to that effect by officials of the revenue service.
The exercise was taken out of the state capital, Akure to other towns like Ondo, Bolorunduro, and Ile-Oluji.
The ODIRS enforcement team, led by the Assistant Director, State Counsel to the revenue agency, Oyetan Afuwape, shut down two hotels, and two sawmills among others, for failure to pay land use charges.
Leader of the enforcement team, Oyetan Afuwape said the business outlets failed to do the needful, despite receiving several notices.
He said the government would continue to go after tax defaulters and other offenders.
He added that the team embarked on the enforcement because of their experience with tax defaulters.
Afuwape added that anyone who unseals the business outlets without government directive risks a 7-year jail term.
He stressed that Ondo State will not close her eyes against tax defaulters because the money generated from the tax is being used to construct roads and take care of the citizens of the State and failure to pay tax will set the state behind as there will be no progress.
The revenue agency is expected to take enforcement to other local government areas in the days ahead.
